Monday, December 27 - Thursday, December 30
Cinematique of Wilmington
7:30 PM - 9:15 PM
Based on Somerset Maugham's novel Theatre, this lively tale from 1930s London features a magnificent central performance by Annette Bening to go with its engaging and raucous storyline. In her early 40s, Julia Lambert (Bening) is starting to realize that her days as the leading light on the London stage are numbered. Her producer husband (Jeremy Irons) tries uselessly to placate her, but she is urged on by memories of her mentor (Michael Gambon) to capitalize on her gifts as a true drama queen. Then an affair with a young American sparks her inner youth, as does some on-stage rivalry with his blonde bimbo on the side. Soon Julia is back on form. But does even she know when she's acting?
Main Stage. 7:30 PM. $7.00 general admission.
105 Minutes.
Rated R.

'COLOR TO THE MAX' ~Pottery by Jim Bisbee~
10:00 AM - 5:30 PM
This show will feature Jim's traditional functional designs along with his latest work. The latest work features large decorative pieces in unusual shapes and sizes, having in common, only, the rich colors that he has incorporated recently. His glazes employ a blend of natural and texture glazes that are layered to evoke images of sunsets and atmospheric wonders. His newest work was recognized with a first place at the Eastern Carolina Regional fine Art show, in New Bern.
All of Jim’s functional works are oven, dishwasher, and microwave safe and contain no lead. As with any pottery it should not be shocked by going directly from the refrigerator to the stove or broiler. His non-functional pieces make great still life vases and accent pieces and bring rich colors to a room.
The Wilmington Gallery (located at Ann & Water St. in Chandlers Wharf) is open Mon-Sat, from 10-5:30, and from Noon until 4PM on Sunday. Phone 910-343-4370.

Matisse and More showcases 24 works on paper from the Cone Collection of the Weatherspoon Art Museum, Greensboro, NC. These early twentieth century treasures, never shown in Wilmington, include such luminaries as Henri Matisse and Pablo Picasso. The original collectors, Claribel and Etta Cone were members of the Greensboro-based millionaire Cone milling family, Jewish immigrants who found tremendous success in the grocery and textile industries. Two of twelve children, the Cone sisters grew up in the tight German-Jewish community on the outskirts of Baltimore. Their brothers later moved to North Carolina and made their fortune spinning cotton into denim for the war effort. The Cone sisters’ great nephew, Billy, an artist who works in photography, currently lives in Wilmington, NC. On view through On view through August 28, 2005 in the C. Reynolds Brown Wing.
